{"id":261,"date":"2013-01-02T11:39:47","date_gmt":"2013-01-02T16:39:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.amixa.com\/blog\/?p=261"},"modified":"2013-07-26T12:17:06","modified_gmt":"2013-07-26T16:17:06","slug":"how-to-get-multiple-xbox-360-consoles-inside-one-lan-working-properly","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.amixa.com\/blog\/2013\/01\/02\/how-to-get-multiple-xbox-360-consoles-inside-one-lan-working-properly\/","title":{"rendered":"How to get multiple xbox 360 consoles inside one LAN working properly"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We recently added a second xbox 360 into our house and came across the dreaded NAT TYPE &#8220;moderate&#8221;.\u00a0 I needed both xbox&#8217;s to get to &#8220;OPEN&#8221; NAT type so that online multiplayer games will function perfectly, but had to invest multiple hours of time into the process to work it all out.<\/p>\n<p>The main factor for me is that I need a firewall that supports both multiple game consoles, as well as the ability to do site-to-site VPN via the firewall.<\/p>\n<p>I tried the following firewall setups:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Watchguard XTM 33-W (latest firmware as of 12-31-2012).\u00a0 <strong>No Go<\/strong>.\u00a0 Tried multiple configurations, not able to get both XBOX&#8217;s to &#8220;open&#8221;.\u00a0 This included port mapping, adjusting content filtering, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Monowall.\u00a0 Latest version as of 12-31-2012.\u00a0 <strong>No go<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Smoothwall Express 3 SP 3.\u00a0 <strong>No go<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>pfsense 2.02 &#8211; <strong>WORKED<\/strong>!\n<ol>\n<li>Here is what I did:\n<ol>\n<li>Install SATA drive into an Optiplex 745.\u00a0 Installed two Intel 1000GT desktop adapters.<\/li>\n<li>Download\u00a0the pfsense LIVE ISO image and burn to a CD.\u00a0 In my case, the image name was pfSense-LiveCD-2.0.2-RELEASE-i386.iso.gz<\/li>\n<li>Boot the CD and install pfsense to the SATA drive.<\/li>\n<li>Configure pfsense (set the WAN and LAN adapters)<\/li>\n<li>boot pfsense, log into the web admin and make sure the house has internet connectivity.\u00a0 (it did).<\/li>\n<li>Make sure your xboxes are on DHCP (obtain IP automatically)<\/li>\n<li>in the web admin of pfsense, go to SERVICES-&gt;UPNP and configure as follows:<\/li>\n<li><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-262\" alt=\"upnp\" src=\"http:\/\/www.amixa.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/upnp.jpg\" width=\"607\" height=\"827\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.amixa.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/upnp.jpg 607w, https:\/\/www.amixa.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/upnp-220x300.jpg 220w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 607px) 100vw, 607px\" \/><\/li>\n<li>click CHANGE.<\/li>\n<li>you can now play 2 or more Xbox 360&#8217;s inside your LAN without a problem.<\/li>\n<li>To look at the UPNP status, go to STATUS-&gt;UPNP.\u00a0 when your Xbox&#8217;s are online, you will see entries here for UPNP port mapping.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em><strong>Note:\u00a0 This will also work fine for the SONY PLAYSTATION PS3.<\/strong><\/em><\/span>\n<ol>\n<li>To configure\/Enable UPNP for the PS3:<\/li>\n<li>Settings\/Network Settings\/Internet Connection Settings\/Yes<\/li>\n<li>Custom (Setting Method)<\/li>\n<li>Go through all menus (to the right) and the last page is ENABLE UPNP.\u00a0 Enable it.<\/li>\n<li>Test the connection and you should now have NAT TYPE 2.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>As far as the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>SONY PLAYSTATION VITA<\/strong> <\/span>goes, I have not yet been able to get that to &#8220;NAT TYPE 2&#8221; &#8212; it does not as of firmware 2.02 on the Vita support UPNP, and I cannot use port mapping\/port forwarding as that would interfere with the PS3 setup.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>If you are able to get a Playstation Vita working with NAT TYPE 2 using PFSENSE I would appreciate knowing your exact setup.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">UPDATE April 26, 2013:<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Upgraded to PFSense 2.0.3.<\/p>\n<p>My current configuration (Which is working perfectly) is as follows:<\/p>\n<p>1) DHCP server ON inside PFSENSE.\u00a0 Both XBOX&#8217;s assigned a static IP<strong> (VIA DHCP MAC ADDRESS\u00a0RESERVATION)<\/strong> so that their internal IP&#8217;s stay fixed.
