{"id":291,"date":"2013-09-10T15:07:52","date_gmt":"2013-09-10T19:07:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.amixa.com\/blog\/?p=291"},"modified":"2016-06-20T08:06:07","modified_gmt":"2016-06-20T12:06:07","slug":"cannot-open-ms-word-attachment-from-outlook-word-experienced-an-error-trying-to-open-the-file","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.amixa.com\/blog\/2013\/09\/10\/cannot-open-ms-word-attachment-from-outlook-word-experienced-an-error-trying-to-open-the-file\/","title":{"rendered":"Cannot open MS Word attachment from Outlook &#8220;Word experienced an error trying to open the file&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is a new one for me, and I believe it may have popped up after the recent Windows Update:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amixa.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/9-10-2013-3-01-48-PM.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-292\" src=\"http:\/\/www.amixa.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/9-10-2013-3-01-48-PM.jpg\" alt=\"9-10-2013 3-01-48 PM\" width=\"409\" height=\"240\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.amixa.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/9-10-2013-3-01-48-PM.jpg 409w, https:\/\/www.amixa.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/9-10-2013-3-01-48-PM-300x176.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 409px) 100vw, 409px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Word experienced an error trying to open the file&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Now if I SAVE that same file out of outlook (or copy and paste it to a drive), and then open from there &#8211; it opens fine.<\/p>\n<p>Here is the solution:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Open Word 2010, 2013 or 2016<\/li>\n<li>Go to File | Options | Trust Center | Trust Center Settings | Protected View<\/li>\n<li><strong>Un-check\u00a0 <\/strong>the &#8220;Enable Protected View for Outlook Attachments&#8221; checkbox<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amixa.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/9-10-2013-3-06-21-PM.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-293\" src=\"http:\/\/www.amixa.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/9-10-2013-3-06-21-PM.jpg\" alt=\"9-10-2013 3-06-21 PM\" width=\"698\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.amixa.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/9-10-2013-3-06-21-PM.jpg 698w, https:\/\/www.amixa.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/9-10-2013-3-06-21-PM-300x143.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 698px) 100vw, 698px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Click ok\/save that setting.<\/p>\n<p>Go back to outlook and your word document should now open fine.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>UPDATE 6\/20\/16:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>I have double checked this and it does work fine for Word 2016 as well.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is a new one for me, and I believe it may have popped up after the recent Windows Update: &#8220;Word experienced an error trying to open the file&#8221;.
