{"id":447,"date":"2016-02-29T09:47:14","date_gmt":"2016-02-29T14:47:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.amixa.com\/blog\/?p=447"},"modified":"2016-02-29T09:47:14","modified_gmt":"2016-02-29T14:47:14","slug":"how-to-uninstall-mse-from-windows-server-2012-r2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.amixa.com\/blog\/2016\/02\/29\/how-to-uninstall-mse-from-windows-server-2012-r2\/","title":{"rendered":"How to uninstall MSE from Windows Server 2012 R2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We recently ran into a situation where we had a Windows 2012 R2 server with Microsoft Security Essentials installed on it (from a few years ago), and now with a recent Windows Update &#8211; the Windows update will not install because MSE is no longer compatible with this OS.<\/p>\n<p>The issue is that you can not uninstall MSE via the standard &#8220;add\/remove&#8221; programs.\u00a0 When that is attempted I get the following error:<\/p>\n<p>Error Code: 0x8004FF04<\/p>\n<p>At that point you&#8217;re dead in the water and can&#8217;t remove MSE.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the EASY fix:<\/p>\n<p>go to<\/p>\n<p>C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft Security Client<\/p>\n<p>and RIGHT CLICK on Setup.exe<\/p>\n<p>Go to Compatibility, check it and change to WIN 7.<\/p>\n<p>Bring up a command prompt<\/p>\n<p>Type in:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft Security Client\\Setup.exe&#8221; \/disableoslimit \/u<\/p>\n<p>This will bring up MSE and at this point you will see an &#8220;uninstall&#8221; button.<\/p>\n<p>Click Uninstall and remove it!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We recently ran into a situation where we had a Windows 2012 R2 server with Microsoft Security Essentials installed on it (from a few years ago), and now with a recent Windows Update &#8211; the Windows update will not install because MSE is no longer compatible with this OS.
